The Prince Edward Viaduct With Over 35,000 LED lights
Thousands of multicolour LED lights lit up the Prince Edward Viaduct (Bloor Viaduct ) referred to as the “Luminous Veil” the light installation was created for the Pan Am games. There are over 35,000 LED lights strung across the safety barrier on the Bloor Viaduct and are said to respond to wind and temperature to create an ever changing spectacle.
The lights were originally envisioned as part of the safety barrier that was erected along the bridge in 2003. The projects designer Dereck Revington said in a release, “There’s nothing like it in the world.” The estimated cost of the lighting project was $2.8 million.
According to the statistics , more than 400 people took their lives jumping from the bridge form the time of its construction in 1918 until the city erected the suicide barrier in 2003.
